Matheus Cunha has been the best player for Wolves so far this campaign.
The Brazilian has dominated every game he has played and has won the club many points on his own.
At the time of writing, the attacker has already netted 10 goals and picked up four assists in 19 games despite the club’s precarious position in the Premier League.
This has seen Cunha named in the Team of the Season so far by Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville with the Brazilian rarely having a bad game.
As a result, Wolves are keen to hold onto the attacker. Plans to give Cunha as new deal were reported at the end of December but little has been said about it since.
Now, John Percy has provided a update on where the club are at in negotiations.
Matheus Cunha is now under contract talks with Wolves amid January rumours

Cunha’s form has seen significant interest from other clubs. Both Man United and Arsenal want to sign Cunha as he continues to dominate the Premier League.
Wolves have continued to state that Cunha is not for sale in January despite the overwhelming interest.
However, one issue the Old Gold faces is the Brazilian’s contract. As it stands, his deal will expire in 2027, just two-and-a-half years away.
Wolves will want to avoid a repeat of Ruben Neves’ sale where they had to sell their captain for a price cut due to him being in the last year of his deal.
As a result, a new contract could help bump up his price as well as deter other clubs from putting in a bid.
Now, Percy has reported that contract talks between Wolves and Cunha are well underway, with the club adamant that he will not leave in January.
Matheus Cunha is the current face of Wolves
After years of selling players, it has been hard to pinpoint an identity at the club. However, after Cunha’s consistent form throughout 2024, it has become clear that he is now the face of Wolves.
Everything about the club goes through him. Whether it is the performances on the pitch or the media outside a matchday, Cunha is there is some capacity.
It is clear that the Brazilian loves the club and a new contract should be a priority for Fosun.
A new deal would not just help generate more money from a potential sale but help prove that Wolves are still a serious club after years of terrible transfer windows.
