Ruben Neves was a favourite amongst the Molineux faithful, and fellow teammate Joao Moutinho was also a huge fan of his game.
Regarded as one of Fosun’s best-ever signings, Neves helped take Wolves to unprecedented heights during his six-year spell at the club.
Moutinho arrived at Molineux a year after his compatriot, but still managed to endear himself to the Wolves supporters.
The Portuguese duo had everything you’d want in a midfield partnership, with the pair’s skillset complementing each other’s games perfectly.
There was, however, one trait of Neves’ that stood out – one that Moutinho wished he had himself.

Joao Moutinho was jealous of Ruben Neves’ trait
When people reflect on Neves’ time at Wolves, there will be a few moments that spring to mind, and almost all of them will involve the midfielder scoring an absolute screamer.
Whether it be his stunning strike against Derby or his beautiful dink versus Watford, Neves can be credited with a number of Wolves’ most memorable goals.
The Portuguese’s tendency to score from range was something that was idolised by his teammates, with Moutinho revealing in March 2020 that he was jealous of his midfield partner’s shooting ability
When asked what trait he would like to steal from Neves, Moutinho told UEFA:
“Shooting from distance.
“It’s easy for me to choose. I think he has lots of talents, among other things. But what would fit in my game, because we play in a similar position is his shooting from distance, which is amazing.
“That would help me and would definitely improve my game as well.”
What is Neves’ best-ever Wolves goal?
Neves was compared to Steven Gerrard during his days at Molineux, and it’s fair to say the Wolves man has a goal catalogue that ranks similarly to that of the Liverpool legend.
It seemed like the Portuguese never scored a so-called ‘easy’ goal during his time at Wolves, with every strike seeming to be a goal of the season contender.
Many will view his half-volley against Derby as the best of the lot, but the sheer brilliance and technique of the Watford chip simply has to go down as number one.
