It’s safe to say plenty of Wolves fans are doubtful about Joao Gomes’ long term prospects at Wolves, and an update regarding Manchester United has today been offered.
It has been a frustrating season for Joao Gomes in 2025/26.
The Brazilian has not been his usual self and has had several sub-par performances.
But by no means has he been among the worst performers, and fans have still greatly appreciated his efforts.
Gomes has pleaded with Wolves fans a couple of times to stick with the team, and you can really tell that he more than anyone genuinely cares about this awful situation, and wants to do his utmost to help turn things around.
In recent days, while Wolves have been busy appointing Rob Edwards, there has – perhaps inevitably – been some talk about Gomes’ future.
And now a new update has been provided.
Joao Gomes unlikely to leave Wolves in January

It was claimed that Gomes is being monitored by Manchester United ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
United are likely to lose Casemiro and are after a long-term replacement, with Gomes a player they’ve kept tabs on for a while.
Given Wolves’ awful situation at the moment, some have wondered if there could be any possibility that Gomes could actually leave the club in the next window.
But journalist Ben Jacobs does not really foresee this happening.
He said: “I don’t think anything is going to be possible for Joao Gomes mid-season because again, Wolves need to back their new manager Rob Edwards.
“They can’t afford to be losing more players and if there’s a mass exodus mid-season, the same for Jorgen Strand Larsen as well, Wolves are going to be in very big trouble.”
There would be anarchy if Wolves sold Joao Gomes in January
It is good to know that it’s unlikely that Wolves aren’t about to sell Gomes in January.
Doing this would essentially communicate that the club have given up in terms of staying in the Premier League, because Gomes is arguably Wolves’ best player.
You can ever say never in football, so some fans will still be nervous about a potential sale.
Joao Gomes has never hidden his love for the Wolves fans
But surely Fosun will not offload Gomes, and one would like to hope that Gomes himself would oppose any move by the club to try and sell him. He certainly cares deeply about Wolves’ current situation.
Jeff Shi did block Jorgen Strand Larsen from being sold to Newcastle United in the summer, and one can only hope the chairman will not be tempted to cash in on Gomes if a big-money offer comes in.
There is also Edwards to factor in. He has just come to the club as the new manager, and he surely wouldn’t have done so if there was a plan to ship out Gomes or any other top players in January.
