Joao Gomes sends rallying cry to Wolves fans after five Premier League defeats

Wolves have had a disastrous start to the new season, losing the first five Premier League games.

Saturday’s game with Leeds United was a big opportunity for Wolves, and Vitor Pereira’s side started well, taking the lead after eight minutes through Ladislav Krejci.

But Wolves then sat back, seemingly content with a one-goal lead.

Leeds then capitalised on some awful defending from Wolves, and scored three times before the break, leading to a chorus of boos.

Pereira made three changes at half-time, but Wolves couldn’t get back into the contest with Leeds defending well.

It is a bleak situation.

Wolves are pointless, and seem to lack an identity at the moment.

Many fans are now very concerned about the fate of the team in 2025/26 after this terrible start, but Joao Gomes has done his best to spread some positivity on social media.

The mood around Wolves is threatening to turn really bad.

Supporters have barely been able to believe what they have seen this season, with Wolves lacking in quality all over the pitch.

And worryingly, there was also some poor body language on show on Saturday against Leeds.

But one man who can never be accused of lacking effort is Joao Gomes, who has sent a message to fans on his Instagram.

The Brazilian said via his Story: “Difficult moment. Nothing to say, just work hard to show results because we are remembered for what we do and not what we say.”

Fer Lopez and Rodrigo Gomes have both apologised to Wolves fans on social media after the latest defeat to Leeds.

There has not yet been any reaction from club captain Toti Gomes.

Joao Gomes has credit in the bank, but must improve for Wolves

Joao Gomes is potentially the most popular player at Wolves, with fans loving how he plays with so much heart whenever he steps onto the pitch.

Unfortunately, Gomes – who is Wolves’ most valuable player – hasn’t had a good start to the new season, and the Brazilian has got to try and improve.

But he’s perhaps one of the only players right now that fans would actually want to read a message from.

He’s got a lot of credit in the bank due to how brilliantly consistent he has been previously, and you just know with Gomes that he actually really cares, and this run of form will be hurting him.

We saw him finish Saturday’s game as captain, and hopefully he’ll show some leadership this week at Compton and try to breathe some positivity into what is surely a beleaguered dressing room at the moment.
