Joao Gomes delighted Wolves recently after penning a new contract and committing his long-term future to the Old Gold.
Joao Gomes is emerging as one of the Premier League’s brightest talents, but he believes huge credit must go to another Wolves first team star, whose presence in Vitor Pereira’s side has helped to ‘elevate’ his game.
And judging by what the Wolves manager has also said recently, it’s clear the 56-year-old agrees.

Joao Gomes enjoying playing alongside ‘indispensable’ Wolves star
Joao Gomes’ form is no coincidence. The South American plays alongside Andre in the heart of Wolves’ midfield, and the pair are incredibly reliable together.
Speaking about the impact his Brazilian teammate has had since his arrival from Fluminense last summer, Joao Gomes told Wolves’ official media team his compatriot has helped aid his development.
“Ever since he came to the team, he’s definitely elevated the way I play,” he said.
“He gives me so much freedom. “We get along so well, on and off the pitch, and I just want to continue that relationship.”
Vitor Pereira agrees following Sandro Tonali comparison
Joao Gomes isn’t the only person to think Andre has made a huge impact at Molineux.
Pereira also spoke very highly of the 23-year-old, comparing him to Newcastle United’s almost-irreplaceable Sandro Tonali, who joined the Magpies from AC Milan two years ago in a deal worth £55 million (Sky Sports).
“I don’t like to compare players but (Sandro) Tonali at Newcastle, I know him from Italy and he’s not used to doing what he does here,” Pereira told the Express & Star last month.
“Now he’s a six who can cover a lot of space, recovering balls, and this is the adaptation he did. Andre is doing that in our team.”
During his first season at Wolves, Andre has featured in 30 matches, in all competitions. He has yet to register a goal or assist but is among the Premier League’s best for key midfield actions, including a 93% pass completion rate (Fbref).
