Joao Gomes, Pedro Neto and many others react on Instagram as Nelson Semedo leaves Wolves

It’s official – Nelson Semedo will definitely not return to Wolves, after recently becoming a free agent.

Over the past few weeks there has been uncertainty surrounding the Portuguese defender.

Wolves left a four-year extension offer on the table for Semedo, and had been hoping for weeks he would sign it.

He finished the season and then went away to mull things over, and only now has Semedo informed Wolves fans that he is moving on.

Semedo’s exit has frustrated fans, some of whom feel Wolves should have retracted their contract offer a while ago.

The feeling is that the club have lost valuable time waiting on Semedo, which could have been spent securing a replacement.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported Semedo is set to join Fenerbahce, having had approaches from other Turkish clubs.

Despite the strangely handled exit, Semedo’s exit is likely to be felt strongly by many at Molineux – not to mention by those who have shared the dressing room with him.

Semedo spent five years at Molineux, after signing from Barcelona.

He initially struggled in English football, but had a fairly solid last two seasons. After the 2023/24 campaign, he was named the Players’ Player of the Season.

He made 182 appearances for the club, and therefore had many teammates along the way.

And some of those teammates, both past and present, have been reacting to the news of his official exit today, with Joao Gomes leading the tributes.

The comments of Semedo’s teammates past and present really do speak volumes.

They’ve all shared the dressing room with him and know him personally, and it’s clear he was an extremely popular figure at Molineux.

Wolves will be losing a great right wing-back, but also evidently someone who was a respected individual in the dressing room.

Wolves must now work quickly to find his replacement, and Vitor Pereira will also soon need to decide on Semedo’s successor as captain.

Currently, Toti Gomes appears to be in pole position, but we’ll see if the armband goes to someone else in the remaining pre-season fixtures.
