Joao Gomes names the one player who has been absolutely crucial for his ‘adaptation’ at Wolves

Wolves have dropped a new documentary about Joao Gomes – and the midfielder has paid tribute to one of his teammates in particular.

The club have been following Gomes closely during his time at the, and last night a video was released across their social media channels.

Gomes arrived at Wolves in January 2023 from Flamengo.

He has been a popular figure at the club from the very start, after digging his heels in to ensure a move to Molineux, after French club Lyon tried to sign him.

The move may not have happened without his stance, and fans were grateful for that. And the Molineux faithful have been very taken by Gomes ever since.

His ferocity and tenacity in the midfield make him very easy to get behind, and he has certainly turned out to be a fantastic signing.

Fans can now get to know Gomes a lot better through this documentary, and in it, he talks up the importance of one teammate for his adaptation.

It can be tricky for young players coming to England from South America.

But so far, Gomes has made his transition look relatively smooth, although it surely wasn’t behind closed doors.

In the documentary, Gomes touches on what it has been like to live with a stammer and had often felt ‘stuck’ and ‘inferior’. It has not been easy for him, but thankfully he now has a very positive outlook on it.

Gomes goes on to talk about one player who has really helped him during his time at Wolves – and fans probably won’t be too surprised to learn who it is.

He said: “I have to talk about Matheus because he was the person who supported me the most here because he left Brazil at a young age.

“Whether on or off the pitch, he was very important for me and my adaptation.

“I’m sure that it would’ve been a lot more difficult without him here.”

Cunha must be a dream teammate

It is no surprise that Cunha has had a big impact on Gomes at Wolves and really helped him to settle. We have also seen Cunha play an active role in helping Wolves sign Pedro Lima and him FaceTime the youngster on his first day at the club.

It has been clear from the moment he stepped through the door that Cunha is a very warm human being, and someone with a big personality.

Despite arriving just weeks before Gomes, he was always likely to take his compatriot under his wing and help him to adapt at Wolves.

Generally speaking, it must be brilliant to have a teammate like Cunha, even for players not hailing from Brazil.

The former Atletico Madrid star is so effervescent, and you can just see how all the other players interact with him how much respect there is for him.
