Joao Gomes lets everyone know where his head is at amid Manchester United rumours

Joao Gomes had endured a tough start to the season under Vitor Pereira, but things could be about to change after Rob Edwards’ appointment.

Wolves signed Joao Gomes from Brazilian side Flamengo for around £15 million back in January of 2023.

He’s definitely proved his worth in the Gold shirt, having established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League, making 103 appearances in all competitions for Wolves.

Joao Gomes has never hidden his love for the Wolves fans

“I love being here and I love playing for you.” – Joao Gomes, after winning Supporters’ Player of the Season for Wolves in 2024/25

But, improvements are required this season if he is to keep pace with the start he’s made to life at Molineux.

This hasn’t knocked Joao Gomes down the pecking order with Wolves fans, though, as he and Andre were the only two players to receive any positive attention after the defeat to Fulham.

Joao Gomes shows how life under Rob Edwards is making him feel

Rob Edwards can immediately get Wolves fans on side by modelling the team around Joao Gomes. He was overlooked far too much under Pereira, which cost the club dearly in a number of fixtures.

However, the rocky start to the season hasn’t affected the morale of the Brazilian, as he’s very much excited to get going under the new boss.

It’s clear that Edwards has already rubbed off on the squad and Gomes himself, with smiles back on faces and Gomes clearly believing that avoiding relegation is possible.

Of course, it’s going to be an uphill battle, but the early signs are incredibly promising.

Joao Gomes needs to take a look at Matheus Cunha

Joao Gomes has been the subject of interest from Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.

It has been claimed that Wolves value Gomes at around £44 million, which would result in a profit of £29 million for Chinese owners Fosun.

How much is Joao Gomes worth in today’s market?

Of course, the lure of a bigger wage packet and Champions League football will always be there, but things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford.

He’s scored just the one goal so far and has dropped to the bench at times.

Relegation fears will no doubt play a big factor too in his decision-making come January, which makes the next five games even more important for Wolves.
