Jeff Stelling says Wolves player is a ‘problem’ as Premier League relegation fight looms

Jeff Stelling says one Wolves player is currently a problem for them amid their fight for Premier League survival.

The Old Gold fell to defeat once again as Sunderland ran out as 2-0 victors on Saturday.

The situation is starting to look bleak, and the Wanderers have plenty of problems at present.

Vitor Pereira’s side are struggling to score goals, and that is leading them to being unable to capitalise on good moments throughout games.

Due to this, Jeff Stelling believes the struggles of one Wolves player are starting to become a major problem for the club.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s injury is a problem for Wolves, says Jeff Stelling

Wolves have had issues scoring goals this season with just five goals in eight matches.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s injury earlier in the season has not helped, and despite the Norwegian being deemed fit to start, he is still not up to full health.

Jeff Stelling insists this is a problem for the Old Gold.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Stelling said, “Strand Larsen, by the way, is a problem for them as well, as he can’t train every day, as he has pain in his tendon, which is an issue, as he is their go-to striker.”

Following the loss at the Stadium of Light, Pereira confirmed the news that Larsen is not able to train every day due to pain in his Achilles tendon.

Now, Pereira faces an uncomfortable decision on whether to drop Larsen as he tries to return to peak fitness.

The decision to give him 90 minutes against Sunderland also does not seem smart in hindsight.

Additionally, the forward was allowed to go on international duty with the injury still bugging him, and that also appears to be unwise.

Letting Jorgen Strand Larsen go on international duty now looks foolish

With Jorgen Strand Larsen not at 100 per cent, it would have made much more sense for Wolves, the player, and the Norwegian national team to assess the situation better.

Larsen was not needed for Norway, as he played just 15 minutes in their most recent World Cup qualification game.

When the Wolves forward entered the game, his nation was already 5-0 up against Israel. Additionally, the following match was only a friendly against New Zealand.

It would have been much smarter for all parties to allow the striker more rest, as Norway could need him at his best for the next break, and Wolves are desperate for him to return to peak form.

Jorgen Strand Larsen is effectively one win away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, and Norway will want their players at the top of their game.
