Jamie Carragher shares fresh Wolves relegation prediction after latest defeat to Chelsea

Wolves were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea in the Premier League last night.

Vitor Pereira has now lost three games in a row in the top-flight, and supporters are growing concerned.

There was more poor defending on show last night at Stamford Bridge with Wolves conceding two more goals from set-pieces.

Tosin Adarabioyo gave Chelsea the lead in the first-half when Matheus Cunha played him onside, but Wolves pulled one back just before half-time through Matt Doherty.

But the hosts scored through Marc Cucurella and then Noni Madueke in the second-half to take all three points.

It was another really poor performance from Wolves, who remain in 17th place in the table, and are only out of the relegation zone because of having a better goal difference than Ipswich.

After last night’s game, pundit Jamie Carragher gave his verdict on whether Wolves will go down or not.

Wolves have taken 16 points from 22 games so far, and have now conceded 51 goals.

That is unacceptable, and something that puts Wolves’ status as a Premier League club in real jeopardy.

After last night’s game, many fans were suggesting that relegation is now nailed on for Wolves given how poor the defending is.

But for Jamie Carragher, there is still hope for Wolves. He is backing the club to survive, despite the latest defensive horror show.

He said on Sky Sports after last night’s game: “He’s come in and had the initial impact, we talk about the new manager bounce.

“We still look at it now, and I still think Wolves might just have enough. It looks as if there’s a bit of a game between them and Everton. Long way to go of course. But they’ll hope, I think if they’re in the same position after those (next) six fixtures, they’ll be absolutely delighted.”

Carragher also slammed Jose Sa after the defeat to Chelsea, insisting the Wolves goalkeeper has been ‘awful all season’.

Wolves are in serious trouble

What Wolves do in the transfer market in the coming days will have a huge bearing on what happens in the second half of the season.

Currently, Wolves are playing in an unsustainable manner.

To have conceded 51 goals so far is just terrible, and this consistent inability to defend, both from set-pieces and in open play, could prove very costly.

Carragher is backing Wolves to just about survive but at the moment, his prediction will likely not be shared by too many fans.

Thankfully Wolves being good in the final third means the club have a better goal difference than the three teams below them.

But it’s still a very concerning situation, and Pereira simply must fix the defensive woes if Wolves are to stay in the top-flight.
