Jamie Carragher says one player shows ‘real quality’ every time he watches Wolves – and it’s not Matheus Cunha

Wolves were narrowly beaten by Liverpool at the weekend, but Jamie Carragher made his feelings known about one visiting player at Anfield.

Wolves played well on Merseyside but lost 2-1, with the damage being done in the first-half.

Luis Diaz capitalised on some iffy defending to bundle home, before Mo Salah added a second from the penalty spot.

There was controversy about the award of the penalty, with some feeling Diaz had fouled Emmanuel Agbadou before going down under a challenge from Jose Sa.

Wolves made a real fist of it in the second-half, but couldn’t find an equaliser after Matheus Cunha had given Wolves hope.

Just ahead of the game, Jamie Carragher talked up the threat of one player for Wolves – and he then went on to have a pretty good game.

Rayan Ait-Nouri started at left wing-back for Wolves against Liverpool.

That has been his position for most of the season, although just recently Rodrigo Gomes has emerged as a good alternative.

Ait-Nouri has had some really good outings against Liverpool and Salah in the past, and the Algerian did well again on Sunday.

Just ahead of kick-off, pundit Jamie Carragher was full of praise for Ait-Nouri – and admitted he’s a player who always catches his eye.

He said on Sky Sports: “A man who I think is a real quality player whenever I watch Wolves play is this man (camera follows Ait-Nouri)

“I mentioned the problems Cunha could cause Trent Alexander-Arnold, but this guy helping as well in that wing-back role getting forward.

“He’ll also have a lot on his plate with Mo Salah as well. But he’ll look to burst forward. He could cause Liverpool real problems as he has real quality.”

Ait-Nouri may have made an impression on Liverpool

Carragher talked up Ait-Nouri’s quality before the game, and the star did catch the eye for Wolves.

Ait-Nouri is known for his twinkle toes and there were a few moments on Sunday where he got himself out of trouble effortlessly with his technical ability.

He was an outlet at Anfield, and he should have been played in for a golden chance in the second-half, but was ignored by Cunha.

Ait-Nouri has actually been linked with Liverpool in the past, and the Reds will surely have liked what they saw from him.

Liverpool fans were even demanding their club sign Ait-Nouri after watching him for Wolves on Sunday.

Wolves will very likely face a battle to keep hold of him this summer.
