Jamie Carragher predicts whether Julen Lopetegui will stay at Wolves now

Wolves fans are worried about the new season, with speculation now rife that manager Julen Lopetegui could leave the club.

The Spaniard isn’t happy with the financial situation at Molineux.

Wolves have been unable to bring in new players this summer having overspent in the last couple of windows.

The club are now trying to turn a significant profit, and have already sold a number of players.

Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, Raul Jimenez, Dion Sanderson, Conor Coady, Ryan Giles and Matija Sarkic have all gone.

And only Tom King and Matt Doherty have come in on frees.

Wolves situation is worrying, and it has been discussed on The Overlap’s Fan Debate.

And former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher gave his thoughts about the current situation at Molineux.

In his eyes, Wanderers could be in trouble this season.

Making his relegation prediction, he said: “Well Sheffield United, I would say Luton. I think Wolves could have a problem. I think Wolves could have a new manager in September. I think the manager will walk out. They have sold players, it looks like they have FFP issues, they are not going to be able to bring anyone in and I think he’s a top manager.

“I think he’ll be thinking it might ruin my reputation here in terms of being dragged into the relegation zone. I think the job he did last season you could have put him up for manager of the season.”

Lopetegui could go

So Carragher thinks Lopetegui will walk.

But, of course, if he does that then he may not be entitled to a pay-off. There are shades of when Antonio Conte was leaving Tottenham Hotspur about this scenario.

So it’s possible that this situation could rumble on a bit, which would be far from ideal.

Wolves now have less than a week to go until their first game of the new season.

It remains to be seen if Lopetegui will be sitting in that dugout. Reportedly, the Wolves players are currently very unsure about that at the moment.
