It’s so clear for Simon Jordan what Rob Edwards should do as Wolves eye Middlesbrough boss

Simon Jordan has weighed in on Wolves’ search for a new manager, and it’s clear as day to him what Rob Edwards’ next move should be.

Wolves are manager-less after parting company with Vitor Pereira on Sunday morning.

Pereira’s final game in charge came against Fulham, with Wolves losing 3-0 at Craven Cottage.

Wolves are now looking to get someone in as quickly as possible and yesterday, it was looking highly likely that Gary O’Neil would return to Molineux for a second spell.

But O’Neil withdrew from the running to be next Wolves manager, prompting the club to look elsewhere.

Wolves now have their sights set on Rob Edwards, who has done a fine job at Middlesbrough so far.

But it could be a challenge to get him out of the Riverside Stadium, despite Boro feeling nervous about Wolves’ interest in Edwards.

For pundit Simon Jordan, it’s clear what he should decide if Wolves do make an approach.

There is no denying that the Wolves job is a hugely difficult one.

The club’s position in the Premier League is precarious, and on top of that, the new manager would have to work under Fosun, who have been heavily criticised over the last few years by fans for their recruitment strategy.

Edwards is highly regarded at Molineux.

But for Simon Jordan, it’s absolutely clear how he should respond to any approach from Wolves.

Urging him to stay at Boro, Jordan said: “He has no business doing anything other than the job he’s got at Middlesbrough.

“He’s been given an opportunity by Steve Gibson, who’s a good football club owner.

“He’s been brought back from an end of his time at Luton where his reputation was damaged a little bit. Because Luton’s decline was to some extent on his watch.

“The successes are there. You’ve got to remember those successes, he was part of it.

“He’s been given a good job. Mind yourself, Rob. Steve Gibson gave you an opportunity. Don’t even be considering moving to Wolves, just because you played there. I took you on loan to Palace!

“It won’t serve him well. If he jumps out the Boro job after being in there for five minutes, we’ve seen this before, people thinking the grass is greener. And it isn’t. He’s at a good football club, Boro are in good nick.

“Gibson will be thinking that they can get promoted, so he’ll probably get backed in January. Pack it in, distance yourself from the Wolves job.”

Wolves manager job is a tough sell

Many Wolves fans aren’t so keen on Edwards coming in as Pereira’s replacement, so if he did turn the club down then there likely wouldn’t be too much upset.

It remains to be seen if Wolves do make an approach for their former defender to lead their new era.

Edwards wouldn’t be drawn on the Wolves links in his press conference yesterday.

It has to be said, the job is a very tough sell right now and it would be little surprise if Edwards heeded the advice of Jordan.

Wolves are in a world of trouble and at Boro, Edwards has made a really good start. Pushing for promotion is surely going to be something that’s difficult to walk away from.
