‘It’s over’: President now says his 26-year-old player will not be joining Wolves

The president of Salernitana Iervolino has suggested a Wolves January swoop for Boulaye Dia may not happen.

Wanderers infamously made an approach to sign the Senegal international on deadline.

After missing out on Che Adams, Wolves turned to the 26-year-old.

But the proposal that was made was not acceptable in the eyes of Salernitana.

It was very unappreciated, with their sporting director Morgan De Sanctis publicly slamming the club.

Wolves’ late approach led to tensions on the side of Salernitana.

And it doesn’t seem like they have dissapated…

Salernitana president Iervolino says Wolves star Boulaye Dia will stay

There have been suggestions that Wolves could come knocking for Dia in January.

Wanderers have made improvements in the final third this season.

But arguably, the team still lacks that clinical finisher.

Matheus Cunha, for all the brilliant work he does for the team, is not a good finisher.

But it seems a move for Dia in January may be unlikely.

Fabrizio Romano quotes Iervolino as saying: “The case is closed, it’s over. Dia will stay at Salernitana.”

Dia – who got fined for his reaction to Salernitana blocking his proposed move to Wolves – only made his move to the club permanently in the summer.

Wolves may have ruined chances to sign Dia

The quote from Iervolino is pretty strong.

One does wonder if Wolves might have spoiled their chances of signing the player in January.

Salernitana were not happy at all with Wolves and how they approached things on deadline day.

But money always talks in football and so, a move should not be totally ruled out.

Especially if Dia actually pushes to join Wolves and makes it difficult for Salernitana.
