Rob Edwards replaced Jackson Tchatchoua with Pedro Lima against Leeds United – and the Brazilian should now start indefinitely for Wolves.

Pedro Lima replacing Jackson Tchatchoua at half-time was a decision that felt significant with the Cameroon international again struggling.

The change was made at half-time, in an apparent admission that Tchatchoua was not coping in the match. The call further emphasised a growing issue on the right flank.

Lima has been on the periphery since his recall from loan in January. But his introduction against Leeds may now point to more involvement.

And there are no reasons why it shouldn’t.

Lima must replace Jackson Tchatchoua for Wolves’ remaining games

Against Leeds, Tchatchoua started once again. But he produced another ineffective display.

As per Sofascore, he made just one defensive action in the game, and provided no threat, having zero shots. He also contested just two duels, winning one.

The E&S handed him a measly 4/10 rating, noting he was ‘often caught out defensively’.

Fans were again critical of Tchatchoua online, with many remarking that he looked like a rabbit in headlights, which has been a persistent issue. Indeed, Andy Thompson recently urged Tchatchoua to get at his man more.

Arguably now, with Tchatchoua still struggling, Lima should be brought in to start Wolves’ remaining games.

Edwards has persisted with Tchatchoua for weeks but has not produced the kind of level to justify remaining in the team.

With Wolves’ fate effectively sealed, this should be a time for experimentation ahead of next season.

Edwards recently talked up Lima’s potential, saying: “He’ll be taking a lot on board at the moment, getting used to England and what the demands are here. But he’s certainly someone who athletically is very good and technically gifted as well.”

“He just has things to learn in-game, which is normal for any 19-year-old. They’re going to make mistakes, they’ve got lots to learn, but it’s really exciting as well when we’ve got some good young players in the building.”

Lima has been on the manager’s radar, and there is no reason for Tchatchoua to stay in the team at this point.

Lima was brought back in January back for a reason – to now not give him a run of starts when Tchatchoua isn’t improving would just be negligible.

With Wolves’ race run in the Premier League, it’s about looking ahead to next season, and these will be crucial weeks for Lima to get minutes in English football under his belt ahead of potentially being a starter next term.
