Injured Wolves player spotted ramping up recovery at Compton Park

Wolves are set for a new era following the sacking of Gary O’Neil, and one wonders if the Vitor Pereira appointment might help one player we’ve barely seen at Molineux.

Pereira is set to be unveiled imminently by the club, who moved for him just hours after sacking Gary O’Neil on Sunday.

O’Neil bit the dust after a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town at Molineux.

Fans are worried the decision to sack O’Neil has come too late, and Pereira certainly has a huge job on his hands to get the club safe.

Wolves are set to back Pereira in January, but it’s going to be a major challenge for him.

Who knows what 2025 will bring, but Enso Gonzalez might be hoping to get a chance under the new manager.

Enso Gonzalez has not been seen a great deal at Wolves since his £5 million move from Libertad in the summer of 2023.

Following the transfer of Joao Gomes, Wolves were hoping they had landed another top prospect from South America.

But Gonzalez struggled to make matchday squads under O’Neil, and in the end, he only made one very short cameo appearance in the Premier League.

He would head to the Olympics with Paraguay in the summer of 2024, but Gonzalez suffered a major setback in the form of an ACL injury against Israel.

Gonzalez left the field on a stretcher, before it was confirmed he had suffered an ACL injury. The winger then underwent surgery.

Last night though, Gonzalez provided an encouraging update on his Instagram Story. He can be seen in the gym at Compton, doing a number of dynamic exercises.

Enso Gonzalez will surely need loan move away from Wolves

It’s good to see Gonzalez ramping up his recovery from the serious injury he suffered back in July.

O’Neil didn’t speak about Gonzalez much during his time at Wolves, but shortly after joining in October he did say that he felt the youngster was still a long way off making an impact in the Premier League (via E&S).

It would be nice to think Gonzalez could still make it at Wolves, but he is seemingly a long way off being a regular fixture in the first-team. Gonzalez himself admitted he had a ‘tough’ first season in England.

Once he’s match fit again, one would imagine Wolves will look to facilitate a loan move for him somewhere. Potentially, the club might have been thinking of doing that in the last window, before the injury occurred.

We will see what 2025 brings. Who knows, maybe Pereira will see something in Gonzalez that O’Neil didn’t.
