In-form Wolves player just captained his country for the first time

The last matches of the international break are playing out, and one Wolves defender just had a big moment.

We’re almost at the end of what has felt like the longest international break of the year, with Wolves fans chomping at the bit to see their side back in action.

We saw Emmanuel Agbadou on the scoresheet for Ivory Coast, Tolu Arokodare’s part in a crucial win for Nigeria, and plenty of Wolves players getting minutes for their national teams.

But perhaps the biggest Wolves win was seeing one of Vitor Pereira’s centre-backs get the armband for the very first time.

Santiago Bueno captained Uruguay against Uzbekistan

On Monday afternoon, Santiago Bueno was revealed as captain for Uruguay.

The South American qualifiers have already concluded, so it was just a friendly against Uzbekistan, but nonetheless, a moment the Wolves man won’t forget.

Uruguay were comfortable for most of the 90 minutes, going ahead by two before the home side pulled one back in the final minutes.

Bueno had the second-most passes completed and second-most touches, matching the occasion with a solid performance.

Bueno won’t give up his starting spot easily

Since Pereira made the decision to drop Agbadou, Bueno has been a reliable stand-in and has done well with the transition to a back four.

But after some time out of the side, Pereira will want to bring Agbadou back in, and Bueno could be the casualty of that decision.

He hasn’t really put a foot wrong, and even made it onto the scoresheet against Spurs.

With one less open position in this new system, the centre-back position is where the most competition lies.

Though Agbadou is finding some form and Toti Gomes has the captain’s armband, Bueno hasn’t really given any reason to the Wolves boss to take him out of the lineup. And this achievement will only cause the Uruguayan to grow in confidence.

A situation to monitor as we get back into club action.
