Impressive Yerson Mosquera stats emerge after Aston Villa defeat as Wolves fans await injury update

Wolves fans are patiently waiting for news about Yerson Mosquera, after he was stretchered off with a knee injury against Aston Villa.

The Colombia international was forced off towards the end after going down under pressure from Morgan Rogers.

Mosquera required treatment for several minutes before being carried from the pitch on a stretcher.

It was a sight that concerned many Wolves fans. Mosquera, of course, has already suffered one bad injury during his time at Wolves.

On his competitive debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2021/22 season, Mosquera suffered a hamstring injury and did not play again that season.

It completely changed his pathway at the club, with the defender heading out on loan to FC Cincinnati in 2023 before then joining Villarreal for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Mosquera has started all five of Wolves’ Premier League games so far this season, indicating that Gary O’Neil has been very happy with his progress.

Mosquera partnered Toti Gomes for the first couple of games, before Craig Dawson came in against Nottingham Forest and Toti moved to left-back.

He also started against Newcastle United and Villa.

At Villa Park, before his injury blow, Mosquera was shining for Wolves.

Today some statistics are doing the rounds from the weekend’s Premier League fixtures. As per The Other 14 on X, Mosquera actually played the joint-most accurate long balls of all players in the league with eight.

He also had the joint-highest accuracy in this metric (80%).

Not only that, Mosquera also managed a very respectable seven blocks and clearances combined.

Mosquera will be a miss for Wolves

We are still waiting for an update from the club regarding Mosquera’s injury, and a potential timeframe for his return.

But the feeling is that he could be out for a while, and that would be a real blow for Wolves. O’Neil certainly didn’t sound too positive after the defeat this weekend.

Mosquera only made his Premier League debut a matter of weeks ago, but he has looked comfortable in the English top-flight so far and has been improving by the game. He was arguably having his best outing against Villa.

Of course, the £4.5 million man has had a few dicey moments and he does bring a bit of chaos at times. But this is Mosquera’s game, and Wolves probably need a bit of grit at the back.

These statistics from the Villa game are impressive, and they only emphasise the blow of losing him.
