‘If it wasn’t for him’: Fabio Silva says Wolves man is the ‘biggest’ reason he stayed at Molineux

Fabio Silva came awfully close to leaving Wolves this summer, however he has now explained the key reason he stayed.

After his move to Molineux not quite working out, Silva seemed set for a sale in the summer.

Success on-loan last season showed that he could be a really important player for the right team.

Speaking to Express and Star, Silva mentioned his previous intention to depart.

“But I was really close to leaving, of course. My agent tried to see the best solution outside of Wolves because last season was amazing for me outside the club and I wanted to continue this development.”

Matt Hobbs is the one who Silva has credited with giving him reason to remain at Old Gold, and he explained why below.

Silva on Hobbs

Matt Hobbs is Wolves‘ sporting director and has been known to have an excellent relationship with the players.

This is something Silva discussed as he talked about why he didn’t leave.

“There were a lot of conversations with these four people. More with Matt Hobbs, who was the biggest part of me staying here at Wolves, because of the way he spoke with me and tried to change my head, my ideas.

“If it wasn’t for him, maybe I wouldn’t be here to speak with you.

“I have to give credit to Matt Hobbs because he’s one of the best parts for me to stay here.”

The secondary factors as to why he stayed

Continuing in the interview, Silva explained that although Hobbs was the main reason, there were multiple factors in him remaining.

“I wanted to continue to play, to feel happy and contribute to the team. But after these three people (spoke to me), and Gary (O’Neil) too, who is very good and gave me confidence to start, I wanted to stay.

“And the fans too, of course. I cannot forget the fans because they always push me.”

As he begins to establish himself in the first team now, we are excited for his future at Wolves.
