Ian Wright and Alan Shearer both slammed the decision to award Newcastle United a penalty against Wolves yesterday.
The pulsating Premier League game finished 2-2 at Molineux.
In the end, it was a decent result for Wolves, who went behind twice in the match.
But perhaps going behind for a second time need not have happened.
Towards the end of the first-half, Hwang Hee-chan was clearing his lines in the penalty area and Fabian Schar came in to challenge.
At first, Hwang appeared to swipe the defender, and referee Anthony Taylor gave a penalty kick.
VAR checked the decision with the benefit of replays.
They clearly showed that Hwang did not kick Schar, and that the Newcastle man had initiated the contact himself.
For some bizarre reason, the on-field decision was upheld, and we are yet again having to speak about Wolves being stung by poor officiating…
Ian Wright slams penalty decision for Newcastle against Wolves
Last night, the decision to award Newcastle a penalty was discussed on Match of the Day.

Alan Shearer and Ian Wright both gave credit to Wolves for their performance.
And both agreed that it should never have been a penalty for Newcastle, and that VAR should have overruled.
Shearer said: “I didn’t think it was a penalty. I can understand why it was given on the pitch. But they looked at it so many times on the replays and I still can’t see why it wasn’t overturned. If that was given against me I’d be livid.
Wright fumed: “I just think in the current climate with what they’ve got at their disposal… I totally understand what Gary O’Neil is saying and why he doesn’t want to speak to them. Because they should get that one.
“That’s a howler for them!”
Another day, another VAR shocker
At this point, Wolves fans are completely fed up with VAR and the embarrassing Premier League officiating standards.
Over the last year or so, the team have been stung by multiple decisions.
There have been at least a couple already this season, and Wolves could easily be several places higher in the table.
It is extremely concerning that things like this keep happening.
And as Wright points out, they have the tools at their disposal to avoid bad decisions. And yet they keep happening.
O’Neil’s post-match comments yesterday were completely justified. Being a Premier League manager is tough enough without officials making life even more difficult.
Thankfully, Wolves were able to put that awful decision behind them and get back into the game through Hwang, after great worth from the fantastic Toti Gomes.
