Wolves are heading for Premier League survival – and Ian Wright believes there is one big reason for that.
Vitor Pereira secured a huge win at the weekend, with Wolves beating Southampton 2-1 at St.Mary’s Stadium.
It was a must-win game for Wolves. And thankfully, the players delivered just enough on the day.
It was by no means a good performance. But Wolves got the job done, and Jorgen Strand Larsen scored two goals to take his tally to nine for the season.
It’s been a very turbulent season at Molineux, and all that matters now is getting points on the board.
Wolves are nearly there, and certainly, Matheus Cunha will be a big reason for the club’s survival when it is confirmed.
But for Ian Wright, there is another big factor as to why Wolves not look like they’ll survive.

Ian Wright suggests Wolves will survive due to Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich being so poor
Wolves currently have 26 points on the board from their 29 games played so far.
That is a pretty awful tally, and yet, the club are nine points clear of the drop zone.
Essentially, the challenge from Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town just hasn’t been strong enough, and Wright suggests Wolves are fortunate to be in the position that they are.
He said on The Kelly & Wrighty Show: “I just thought again, you look at the three (bottom) teams, and why Wolves have been very fortunate this season, because they’ve been poor in what they should be doing.

“They’re not good enough. But then you look from Wolves to 16th, Wolves have been nowhere near good enough.
“Some players have found form. We know what Cunha’s about. I think Bellegarde, who I think was playing on the right wing when Gary O’Neil was there, is now in the centre which is his natural position, looks like another player that can really contribute to what they’re doing. Strand Larsen the same.
“So you look at them and think there’s a lot more to come from them. But at the same time I think they’re fortunate that the three teams below them are poor.”
Wright does believe that Pereira will raise the standards at Wolves though, and expects them to be much improved in 2025/26.

Wolves are extremely fortunate
Wright sadly makes a very good point here.
Wolves have had a very poor campaign and yet, there is now a big gap down to the bottom three.
The job is not done yet, but it looks likely that Wolves will survive. But such a tally at this point in any other season would surely have the club in real trouble.
Between them, the current bottom three have picked up just eight points in 2025. Wolves alone have picked up 10.
We are currently talking about the worst bottom three in Premier League history, with the Match of the Day X account recently reporting that after 28 matches played (now 29), the current bottom three have picked up just 43 points – which is the lowest combined total ever at this stage.
Make no mistake about it, Wolves have truly been fortunate to now be sitting nine points clear after 28 games.
