Ian Wright left shocked and worried after what Wolves have just done

Ian Wright has admitted his concern after a number of Premier League clubs voted against a temporary ban on related-party loans, and questioned Wolves.

On Tuesday, top-flight clubs were asked to vote on whether they want to temporarily ban related-party loans, with 14 needed to vote for the ban for it to pass.

In the end, only 13 voted for, with seven clubs voting against the ban.

As a result, clubs may freely go after players in January from clubs that are owned by related parties. For example, Newcastle United will be able to sign players from any of the four Saudi Pro League clubs owned by PIF.

There has been a lot of talk about the Magpies making a loan move for former captain Ruben Neves.

The vote on related-party loans was a topic of conversation on the latest Stick To Football episode on The Overlap YouTube channel.

David Ornstein had said that he got the sense that Wolves were initially going to give their support for the ban. In the end though, Wolves somewhat surprisingly voted against the temporary ban.

Wright really couldn’t get his head around why Wolves voted the way they did, saying: “Why have Wolves voted against it?”

Gary Neville then asked if Wright was ‘concerned’ about everything that’s happening at the top of football right now. Wright responded: “Yeah. The way the game is going, you’re worried because it’s just pure greed. It seems to have intensified. Everyone is looking out for themselves.

“The ESL (European Super League), that was the one that shook me up. You mention Wolves who have kind of got no obvious (association), why then? I’m trying to make sense of it, simply because it just feels corrupt. It feels very corrupt.”

Wolves vote is a little strange

It was a bit of a surprise to see that Wolves had voted against the temporary ban.

On the face of it, Wolves don’t really have much of a reason to have voted against. There is a connection/association with Grasshoppers, with the wife of Fosun boss Guo Guangchang owning the Swiss outfit.

But Wolves surely aren’t going to be targeting players from the club in January.

One wonders if Wolves don’t want to hinder themselves in the future, with Fosun perhaps looking to acquire another club.
