‘I suspect’… Simon Jordan gives his honest verdict on Wolves moving for Vitor Pereira

Wolves are set for a new erea after Gary O’Neil was finally sacked.

Gary O’Neil bit the dust after overseeing a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town, with Fosun relieving him of his duties after weeks of calls from supporters.

Things looked promising under O’Neil at the start of 2024.

But ever since the club lost to Coventry City in the FA Cup quarter-final, Wolves have been on the decline.

It’s all come to a head in the last few weeks, and O’Neil is now out of work. Wolves are about to appoint Vitor Pereira, who flew into England on Tuesday.

We are now just waiting for official confirmation from the club, and earlier today, Simon Jordan gave his thoughts about the appointment.

Simon Jordan criticised Jeff Shi for his public backing of O’Neil last week, and was back on talkSPORT today to discuss the latest development about Pereira.

It’s expected there won’t be any issues with Pereira succeeding O’Neil and that official confirmation of the move will arrive soon.

For Jordan, it is an interesting appointment by Wolves, and one he thinks will give them a chance of staving off relegation.

He said: “Look, the guy comes with decent credentials. We watched Nuno go to Saudi. He didn’t go there for the football project, he went there because of money.

“He’s back now managing Nottingham Forest and no one can argue what he’s doing there.

“So they’ve been successful with Portuguese managers before. Bruno Lage was a success for a period of time. Nuno was obviously successful. This guy is another one off the conveyor belt, I don’t know why there’s so many Portuguese managers out there who seem to be doing well, but here’s another one. I suspect he’ll give them a chance.”

Pereira is inheriting a mess at Wolves

This appointment by Wolves is going to be extremely interesting.

He wasn’t someone anybody had mentioned prior to Sunday, but Wolves seemingly feel he is the man for the job.

He’s had a lot of clubs in his career which some people are slightly concerned by.

But Pereira was said to have ‘marshalled his resources pretty well’ at Corinthians, and he is no stranger to working at ‘erratic’ clubs.

It is a huge challenge for him, but one has to admire his willingness to take it on.

As bad as this season has been so far, there is still hope for Wolves. If the club can hand Pereira the players he needs in January, and if Pereira can keep the emotions of this squad in check, then there will bee a much improved chance of survival.
