Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera had a 2024/25 campaign that went from the highest high to the lowest low.
After Gary O’Neil showed trust in the returning loanee during pre-season, Mosquera became a firm part of Wolves’ plans.
The Colombian started all of Wolves’ opening games in the 2024/25 Premier League, but devastatingly, his progress came to a halt.
On matchday five, Mosquera suffered an ACL injury, ending the 24-year-old’s season just as he was gaining status as a starter in the English top flight.

Yerson Mosquera breaks silence on his Wolves future
Despite only making five appearances before having to settle for the sidelines, Wolves showed their appreciation for the centre-back despite his unavailability.
Mosquera signed a new contract at Wolves in March, committing his future to the West Midlands club until at least 2030.
The future looks exciting for the defender, however, it’s not actually guaranteed that he’ll be at Wolves next season.
That’s because Mosquera has been linked to a loan exit ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, a rumour that the player might not be fond of.
Speaking to Wolves’ official website, the Colombian didn’t hold back when expressing his desire to get back into the fold and impress Vitor Pereira.
“The progress is going well. I will be trying with the team maybe in pre-season, but I need to keep going now, I need to prepare,” Mosquera said with regard to his recovery.
“I will stay here for one more week, because I need to work. I need to recover well. I need to go to summer and do something as well, because I need to be back ready for the next step, it’s really important for me.
“I need to show the fans why I need to stay here, why I need to play. That’s my point, to show them a good show.”
The 24-year-old then made his feelings for Wolves known, which could suggest his preference to stay at Molineux next season rather than departing on loan.
“I’m excited to wear the shirt, because I love the football and this is my home – I’m Wolves and I love this club, I love this city, I love the supporters, and I will hopefully stay here for a long time.”
Loaning Mosquera would be a mistake
Wolves fans were saddened by the news of Mosquera’s links to a loan exit, insisting that the defender is better kept in the West Midlands.
There’s some promise about the situation, as we know Pereira is a strong admirer of what Mosquera can offer his team, which only makes loan links all the more surprising.
Aside from Mosquera’s talent, after the trouble Wolves got into last season before the winter transfer window, it would be wise for the manager to have as many defensive options as possible.
Wolves don’t want to be left short again, particularly when a Premier League-ready player like Mosquera is there to be used.
For now, the central defender will focus on his recovery and getting ready for pre-season, where his next steps will become clearer.
