The eight players that Gary O’Neil welcomed to Wolves in the 2024 summer transfer window had turbulent seasons at Molineux.
Very few would’ve expected Wolves to have started the 2024/25 campaign so badly, given the quality that O’Neil had in his squad.
Dire results led to O’Neil being sacked in December, leaving those he signed that summer needing to adapt to having a new manager in charge.
Vitor Pereira will be thankful for the parting gifts O’Neil left him, with few summer signings having an impact as remarkable as the £21m acquisition of Andre.

Andre shocked by the support of Wolves fans
Deadline day of the 2024 summer transfer window was eventful, with Andre arriving late to complete a move from Fluminense to Molineux.
The Brazil international had rejected Liverpool the year prior, emphasising how impressive it was for Wolves to pull his transfer off.
Since arriving in the West Midlands, Andre has become one of the Premier League’s best performers, but not everything has been easy.
Andre struggled to adapt to life at Wolves early into his career, leaving his family behind in South America, though very few would’ve picked up on the midfielder’s hardships.
When reminiscing on his first season in England, the 23-year-old admitted that he was left surprised by one thing about the club – the fans.
“I confess that I was very surprised by the reaction of the Wolverhampton fans,” Andre told Wolves’ official website.
“I was very happy with all their support. Now, I think it’s all going to go from here up.”
Pereira didn’t expect such amazing support from Wolves fans when he arrived, and it appears Andre felt the same, as the Brazilian shared his gratitude for the love he received early on.
“I really enjoyed it, I was very positively surprised by the fans’ reaction, and I believe I’m ready to build a great story here.”
Andre made it known that he feels happy and at home at Wolves, which is a relief given what the former Fluminense star had to combat after leaving his homeland and family.
Andre placed himself amongst Europe’s best
Some fans were confused when Wolves secured a deal for Andre, as O’Neil had quite the midfield set-up at the time.
Things couldn’t be more different now, as, since his arrival, neither supporters nor the player has looked back, as he continues to prove himself to be one of Europe’s best in his position.
Statistic | Per 90 average | Rank in Europe |
Ball recoveries | 7.06 | Top 4% |
Tackles won | 2.00 | Top 6% |
Tackles | 3.31 | Top 4% |
Pass completion | 92.9% | Top 1% |
The numbers only reinforce just how impeccable Andre’s debut campaign in England was, ranking highly against central midfielders from Europe’s top-five leagues.
Wolves fans have played their part to get the 23-year-old ticking, and the man himself has certainly repaid supporters with his brilliance on the pitch.
