Hwang sets sights on next season with Wolves despite recent exit talk

Hwang Hee-chan is already looking ahead to next season with Wolves, despite recent talk that he could leave Molineux this summer.

The South Korean international has just finished his second season with Wanderers, after signing for the club from RB Leipzig, initially on loan.

Hwang made 32 appearances across all competitions, which was two fewer than his first season.

But Hwang suffered a couple of injuries this term which did limit his opportunities.

A hamstring injury he picked up against Liverpool back in February saw him miss five Premier League games, and he then had a setback after after making his return against Newcastle United, against whom he scored.

Despite his fitness struggles, he was still given plenty of minutes by Julen Lopetegui, who clearly rates the 27-year-old.

When Hwang came back from the World Cup, Lopetegui gave him six straight starts in the Premier League. Then he got that injury against Liverpool.

Recently, it was reported that plenty of clubs like Hwang heading into the summer window. Apparently, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are among those keen.

And it was suggested that he’s a player Wolves may look to sell given the current FFP issues.

But Hwang has made some comments to suggest that he himself does not want to go anywhere this summer.

He said (via Wolves official): “This season we haven’t been at the top of our game and in the top places. But my aim for next season is to try and reach those top place. Because we have many good players and we can do more than what we have shown.

“We have the quality to fight for the top places. I want to achieve things with Wolves, so I would like to reach the European tournaments with the team. We have to aim high.”

Hopefully Wolves keep Hwang Hee-chan – he’s clearly very keen to stay

Hwang definitely seems really happy at Wolves.

These comments about wanting to achieve things with Wanderers suggest he is fully committed to the project at Molineux.

Hopefully Wolves do keep hold of him.

He may not be prolific, but Hwang has an excellent attitude and always busts a gut for the team.

He looked really good when he came back from the World Cup and seemed to really relish playing under Lopetegui. He then got unlucky with his injury.

Maybe next season, he can really thrive under the Spaniard if he can stay fit.
