Wolves star Hwang Hee-chan was full of praise for manager Gary O’Neil after the Old Gold’s win over Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week.
Wolves are on a high after beating Spurs 2-1 in North London last time out, with Gary O’Neil’s side thriving in the Premier League this term.
There was little expectation that the Midlands side would adapt to the new manager as well as they have, particularly considering that he was hired just five days prior to the campaign at the time of the club’s financial woes.
Instead of crumbling with a significant lack of squad depth, the Old Gold have been scintillating to watch this season thanks to the positivity of the boss’ playing style.
One player that has excelled under O’Neil is Hwang Hee-chan, who with 10 goals already is only three goals away from recording the highest league tally of his career.
What Hwang Hee-chan said about Gary O’Neil
Speaking to the club’s media after the Spurs victory, the Korean was full of praise for his manager, sharing the key reasons why the squad are a “great team” under the boss.
“When the season first started, the manager had just come in and had a period where he was trying to build a strong team. I feel he has made us a great team and we are getting better with every game.”
“The team is well drilled to the manager’s tactics, and I feel the results are following due to those efforts. The match gave us the confidence that we will become even better and gives us a clear idea on where we aim to head.”

How good Hwang Hee-chan has been for Wolves this season
While Hwang deserves a lot of credit for his goalscoring form at Wolves this season, the numbers show how much the Korean has improved under O’Neil.
As highlighted by FBref statistics, the 28-year-old averages 2.05 shots and 0.75 goals per shot on target per 90 this season in the Premier League, compared to his 1.43 shots and 0.43 goals per shot on target per 90 last term.
O’Neil has certainly solved things in the goals department for Wolves, who have already outscored their tally from last term after just 25 games.
Hwang touched upon the hunger and desire to achieve more in the current squad, highlighting the positivity that the manager has installed at the club.
“We can never settle and be happy with where we are, we need to keep improving and aim higher and us players are always talking about what we need to do to improve.”
It’s been a memorable campaign already for the Old Gold, who after a few years of mediocrity look to be back on track to push up the table once more.
