Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan has reacted to receiving racial abuse in a pre-season friendly against Como.
Gary O’Neil’s side returned to action on Monday evening as Wolves beat Como 1-0 in a pre-season training friendly in Marbella.
The squad have been at a pre-season training camp in Spain preparing for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, with plenty to take from the narrow victory against Cesc Fabregas’ team.
Unfortunately, the game became not so much about the football but more about the despicable racial abuse that Hwang Hee-chan received from a player of the opposition.

The Wolves forward was on the receiving end of racist remarks during the game, seeing teammate Daniel Podence sent off for his retaliation to the incident.
Podence swung a punch at the player who verbally attacked Hwang, with the club and the footballing world showing their support for the South Korean star.
The 28-year-old was flooded with messages of support on social media and has now reacted to the incident on his Instagram.
Hwang captioned the post with this important message to his followers:
“Racism is intolerable in sports and in all aspects of life.
“After the incident, the coaching staff and my teammates immediately told me that they would leave the field with me if needed, and they kept checking on my wellbeing. I am very grateful to my teammates once again❤️
“Despite of all this, I wanted to carry on and we did what we had to do on the pitch!
“Lastly Thank you to everyone who sent supportive messages💪🏽
“There is no room for Racism”
Several Wolves players have reacted to the terrible event on their own social media channels, including Podence who shared an Instagram story after receiving a red card.

In what should have marked the start of the 2024/25 action for Wolves in pre-season, the squad were left deflated by the abuse their teammate suffered.
To emphasise what the forward said in his Instagram response, there is no room for racism.
Many fans have shown strong support to Hwang in light of the fixture, with fans also having a lot to say about Como’s dreadful response to the situation on their official X account.
It’s a terrible situation for Hwang and for Wolves, whose focus should have been solely on the task on the pitch, with the racial incident eclipsing any positivity to take from the game.
Hwang’s statement shows his strength and character, as the 28-year-old will look to have a strong season at Wolves next term, knowing he has full support from his teammates and supporters at Molineux and beyond.
