Wolves’ chances of staying in the Premier League currently look slim and for Hugo Bueno, the job now is very clear.
The closing stage of a Premier League campaign tends to remove any illusion about what survival requires. Points become the only meaningful currency once the fixture list begins to run out. And given Wolves’ dire situation, points are certainly the only thing that matter.
Players feel that pressure as clearly as supporters. Inside dressing rooms the conversation often becomes direct and uncomplicated.
At Wolves that message has now been voiced openly. Hugo Bueno has delivered a blunt explanation of what the team must do next.
Hugo Bueno insists Wolves must win every game to stay up
Bueno summed up the situation with clarity when discussing the team’s outlook for the remainder of the season. The defender admitted the task ahead is now simple – win every game.
He said (via Wolves official): “We just have to win every game, we know that and it’s clear. We have eight finals left and we’re going to give 100 per cent in every single game. We don’t have any other option; we have to go and win.
“It doesn’t matter who, the situation, nothing matters, we just have to go and win it. We know that and we’re going to work for it.”
The comment strips the survival battle down to its most basic truth. Wolves simply do not have the luxury of treating fixtures as opportunities.

Matches have instead become necessities. Any dropped points now carry consequences that grow heavier with every passing week.
Bueno’s words also reveal a squad that understands exactly where the club stands in the table. Players cannot rely on favourable results elsewhere to solve the problem.
Premier League survival is rarely secured by mathematics alone. Teams must produce a sequence of results that changes the direction of their season.
That challenge now defines Wolves’ remaining fixtures. Each game offers another chance to close the gap that has opened beneath them.
Wolves need a miracle despite upturn
Although clearly the players in the squad are realistic about the situation, Bueno and the players still feel there is an outside chance of survival.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 15 | 29 | 7 | 10 | 12 | 37 | 48 | -11 | 31 | |
| 16 | 29 | 7 | 8 | 14 | 39 | 46 | -7 | 29 | |
| 17 | 29 | 7 | 7 | 15 | 28 | 43 | -15 | 28 | |
| 18 | 29 | 7 | 7 | 15 | 35 | 54 | -19 | 28 | |
| 19 | 29 | 4 | 7 | 18 | 32 | 58 | -26 | 19 | |
| 20 | 30 | 3 | 7 | 20 | 22 | 52 | -30 | 16 |
We have all seen the level of fight in recent weeks and there’s no doubt they’ll be doing their utmost to finish the season strongly.
But a miracle is still required for Wolves to actually stay up, despite back-to-back wins against Aston Villa and Liverpool.
Wolves actually do have a decent run-in in order to pull of the greatest escape, but winning all eight remaining fixtures really would be quite something.
