Huge blow for Wolves as Jose Sa is withdrawn through injury v Arsenal

Jose Sa has been subbed off during Wolves’ game against Arsenal at The Emirates which adds to Gary O’Neil’s injury woes.

Wolves came into Saturday’s game with a couple of key injuries and will be concerned over a new potential injury which has been sustained during the first half against Arsenal.

Jose Sa was withdrawn by Wolves in the 23rd minute with Daniel Bentley replacing the Portuguese international.

Sa seemed to have injured his back which will be a huge cause for concern on the Wolves bench for Gary O’Neil.

He picked it up while making a save, which Paul Merson described as a great save.

What do we know about Jose Sa’s injury?

While we aren’t aware just yet of the severity of Sa’s injury, it was encouraging to see he’d walked off the pitch which should indicate the injury isn’t too serious.

Liam Keen tweeted on X, explaining that: “Looks like a back issue for Sa. In some discomfort.”

Nathan Judah shared this sentiment as he wrote: “In clear pain as he walks off, hopefully nothing too serious”.

Watching the game for Sky Sports, Paul Merson explained what he could see happening in the game which led to Sa’s withdrawal.

“The keeper comes out and he makes a great save, it’s Sa. But Sa’s going to go off here it looks like he’s injured he makes a great save, it would’ve been an absolute worldie if he’d scored. Sa’s now coming off he’s got something wrong on his side, on his hip it looks like.”

Sa has been a standout for Wolves this season to date, which will make his absence a painful miss. Hopefully, it isn’t anything serious and he doesn’t miss an extended period, as he is vital to this team.

Huge importance will now be on whether Bentley can find the form he showed at points last season and minimise the impact Sa being out could have.
