Wolves are fighting a race against time to keep Nelson Semedo at Molineux as his contract ticks down.
While Vitor Pereira is desperate to keep Semedo at Wolves beyond the summer, the chances of doing so are looking to be slim.
Semedo’s wages could make things difficult, with the defender being one of the top earners in the Wolves squad.
That being said, having taken on the role of club captain, the right-back’s importance to Pereira’s project has increased significantly, making for an interesting run in to the summer when the 31-year-old becomes a free agent.

Sources explain Nelson Semedo contract stance at Wolves
Out of the Wolves players out of contract in 2025, Semedo is undoubtedly the player who stands out as one the Old Gold will want to keep hold of.
As mentioned, things won’t be easy but not all hope is lost, as transfer expert Graeme Bailey of TBR explained.
Speaking to Molineux News, Bailey shared an insight into Wolves’ stance on Semedo’s future and, where interest in the defender is coming from.
It’s understood that while Wolves are trying hard to keep their captain, having held talks with the player, Semedo is assessing his options.
The Portugal international is ‘open to staying’ at Molineux beyond 2025 but it’s difficult to ignore ‘major interest’ coming from abroad.
Bailey informed us that interest from Saudi Arabia has not disappeared, as Semedo was mentioned as a target for Saudi clubs in the summer, which could be a possible next step for the 31-year-old if he does not have the chance to renew with Wolves.
Semedo has also been linked to Benfica, where he could link up with Bruno Lage if he favours a return to his homeland.
For now, sources understand that Semedo is waiting to assess his options before deciding his future, with uncertainty still there regarding his Wolves career.
Semedo is so important to Vitor Pereira
Semedo is loving life with Pereira at Wolves and the feeling is mutual, as the right-back is firmly first choice in the back five.
Not only is the former Barcelona defender valued due to his performance level for Wolves but, his contribution away from the action also doesn’t go unnoticed.
After completing his transfer to Wolves, new signing Marshall Munetsi received a warm welcome from Semedo, who is relishing his leadership role in the squad.
It remains to be seen what the Old Gold will opt to do regarding the Portugal international’s future, in what will be a fascinating saga to follow until the summer.
