It’s difficult to imagine where Wolves would be without Matheus Cunha but what do his teammates think of his brilliance?
With 13 Premier League goals this season, Cunha is doing his all to keep Wolves away from the relegation zone.
There are few forwards as in form as the Brazilian at present, with Cunha scoring four in his previous four fixtures for the Old Gold.
Vitor Pereira understands the quality he has in the 25-year-old, who committed his future to Wolves in January by penning a contract extension.

What the Wolves squad think of Matheus Cunha’s form
Cunha is vital to Wolves as, without the former Atletico Madrid star, Wolves wouldn’t have scored 47% of their Premier League goals as the Brazilian has 17 goal contributions this term.
It’s remarkable just how well Cunha is performing in a side that was threatened with relegation earlier in the season but, what do his teammates think of the club’s dependence on their forward?
Club captain Nelson Semedo offered an insight into what the dressing room thinks of Cunha, with the feedback expected, as the 25-year-old is a popular figure at Compton Park.
“He knows how important he is for us. When the guys see him working that hard, everybody will give more, and everybody will give that extra that we need,” Semedo said, via Express and Star.
Semedo then shared his ‘opinion’ that Cunha is one of the best players in the Premier League, placing him in the same dimension as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland.
“We are very lucky to have him. I hope he keeps helping the team, and we will try to help him the best way we can as well. That is my personal opinion, but I think a lot of people think like that [about Cunha being one of the best in the league]. He is doing really well, and we are very lucky to have him.”
The Wolves skipper went on to insist that he and his teammates are giving their all to support Cunha’s brilliance, adding that the forward also gives back with how motivated he is to win.
“We are going to try to help him the best way we can. To feed him, to give him confidence because I think he is a very important player for us and I think he is making the difference in all the games actually. I think you can see his desire to win the games, and his ability with the ball is another level.
“He is a very good guy. I really like him. I have a very good relationship with him and his family as well. When he is good, he really can help us.”
Matheus Cunha up there with Mohamed Salah as one of the Premier League’s best
Cunha’s release clause will open the door for clubs to snatch the forward from Wolves’ grasp in the summer, with a fixed price of £62.5m there to be exploited.
It’s a remarkable deal from a Wolves point of view, who surely could’ve demanded more for a player who, as Semedo said, is one of the Premier League’s best.
Statistic | Per 90 Average | Rank in Premier League |
Non-penalty goals | 0.57 | Top 2% |
Shots | 3.51 | Top 5% |
Shots on target | 1.40 | Top 3% |
As seen above, the Brazilian is one of the top-performing forwards in the English top flight this term, ranking highly in crucial statistics.
Keeping hold of a player who is up there with the best will be an uphill battle for the Old Gold but for now, the squad will enjoy his brilliance and influence at Molineux.
