Two players who have been linked with Wolves, Renato Sanches and Sven Botman, were both in Champions League action last night.
The pair turned out for Lille in their final group stage match against Wolfsburg.
And it was a fantastic night for the Ligue 1 side, who won the game 3-1 and actually secured top spot.
They are through to the knockout stages, with GFFN describing the final outing as a ‘professional win’.
Goals came from Burak Yilmaz, Jonathan David and Angel Gomes, with Renato Steffen scoring a consolation for the hosts.
With Sanches and Botman both in the starting lineup for the visitors, the game had a bit more intrigue about it from a Wolves perspective.
There were reports at the end of the last transfer window that Wolves were looking to bring in both players.
In the end neither came, with Wolves walking away from a deal for Sanches because of his injury at the time.
Last night, despite Lille’s victory, the pair were not particularly impressive.
Botman got a 6/10 from GFFN, and was rated 6.5 on Sofascore.
Sanches and Botman still both worth a transfer pursuit from Wolves
Neither Sanches nor Botman shone last night, but both players are still worth a transfer pursuit in January for Wolves.
In recent weeks other clubs have become linked with them, meaning Wolves may not have it easy.
But Wolves can’t go on with just three midfield options and so few natural centre-backs who aren’t injury prone.
Over the next few weeks, Wolves ought to ensure they are scouting Sanches and Botman, ahead of a pursuit next month.
