How Rafael Leao has been getting on at AC Milan since Wolves summer transfer links

AC Milan star Rafael Leao was heavily linked with a move to Wolves in the summer.

The Portuguese attacker was said to be on the club’s radar, and Calciomercato claimed the club were actually offered the chance to sign him.

A move did not materialise though, and Wolves have gone into 2021/22 with just the two out-and-out strikers in Raul Jimenez and Fabio Silva.

That was a bit of a risk, especially given the Mexican had been out for so long after fracturing his skull.

Silva is also still only a teenager.

Leao might have been handy to have, and he’s been enjoying a decent season so far with the Rossoneri.

The star has been a regular in the starting XI, starting all but two games in Serie A so far.

He’s scored four goals for the club in the league, and was also on target in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. That means he currently has two more than Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season.

The Swede has only played six games though having had injury problems.

Leao hasn’t just been scoring, he’s also provided a couple of assists to boot.

Seven goal contributions is not a bad return at all given the level of competition at Milan.

The club have Ibrahimovic and new signing Olivier Giroud, as well as Ante Rebic.

It really has been a fruitful campaign so far, with Milan currently second in Serie A and still unbeaten. They have the same number of points as Napoli (32).

WhoScored have him as the highest-rated player at Milan so far (7.16).

Wolves should continue to monitor Rafael Leao amid good season with AC Milan

Wolves should be keeping an eye on Rafael Leao at AC Milan.

He’s doing well right now.

Wolves only have two strikers at the moment, and Fabio Silva has not been getting much game time.

If Bruno Lage changes his mind and permits the youngster a loan move, then Leao is someone the club should be looking at trying to sign.

He’s much quicker than Jimenez and Silva and would bring something different.
