How Middlesbrough really feel about keeping Rob Edwards out of Wolves’ clutches

Wolves are looking for a new manager and Rob Edwards is thought to be a top target.

Wolves parted company with Vitor Pereira on Sunday, following the 3-0 defeat to Fulham.

Vitor Pereira had overseen a dismal season, with Wolves sitting rock bottom of the Premier League on just two points.

In recent weeks, the tide was turning and the scenes that unfolded in front of the South Bank were worrying to say the least.

Pereira’s time as Wolves manager is now over, and the search is now in full swing for someone to dig the club out of this mess.

And Rob Edwards is thought to be a top target for Wolves.

And we can bring word of how Boro feel about their head coach departing for Molineux.

It had looked as though Gary O’Neil would return to Wolves for a second stint.

O’Neil had held advanced talks with Wolves, but in the end, he couldn’t agree working conditions to return.

So Wolves have turned their attention to Edwards, who of course is a former player.

There have been claims this morning of confidence from Boro about keeping Edwards. But according to Molineux News transfer expert Graeme Bailey, they are actually unnerved by Wolves’ interest.

He says: “Middlesbrough are very worried about Edwards – his clause is described as ‘not an issue’ in terms of cost.”

Wolves still have to convince Edwards

While it’s positive that Boro are worried about Wolves’ interest in Edwards, a move is far from close.

Edwards is doing a great job at the club, and currently has them flying high in second place in the Championship.

Edwards wouldn’t really be drawn on the links to Wolves yesterday at his press conference, but there is a chance that he will come to Molineux.

That said, it could potentially be a hard sell for Wolves.

There is no overstating how big a job the next manager of Wolves has. The club are in dire straits and Edwards may well feel that the timing just isn’t right, just like O’Neil.
