How Mario Lemina really acted in final days at Wolves amid fallout as Galatasaray transfer is confirmed

Former Wolves captain Mario Lemina has officially left the club having completed a transfer to Galatasaray.

After two years and 77 appearances, Lemina’s Wolves career has come to an end in a disappointing fashion.

The midfielder started the 2024/25 campaign as club captain on the back of a year that saw him win Wolves’ Player of the Season award.

After Vitor Pereira revealed that Lemina refused to play for the club, the Gabon international’s transfer has been expected, with a move to Galatasaray now complete.

How Mario Lemina acted at Compton before Galatasaray transfer

Despite the quality that Lemina possesses, Pereira will be relieved that the transfer saga is now over, in what was a messy situation for the Wolves manager to inherit.

Since Lemina forfeited captaincy, the 31-year-old has only played twice for Wolves, recording only 31 minutes of action under Pereira.

It’s been quite the fall from grace for the former captain, whose Molineux career ultimately ended following his bust-up at the London Stadium.

Lemina was criticised for his actions at full time against West Ham, where he squared up not only to opposition players but, to Wolves’ coaching staff too.

As a result, the Gabonese ace’s transfer is far from surprising but, what has happened behind the scenes over the dramatic few weeks?

Journalist Liam Keen shared an insight, revealing that despite the fallout and refusing to play for Wolves, Lemina ‘was not making himself a nuisance’ at Compton Park or in training sessions.

Writing for Express and Star, Keen noted that despite the midfielder conducting himself well behind the scenes with the squad, his public desire to leave the club ‘became a distraction’ that couldn’t be ignored.

There will be an element of relief that Lemina’s future is now decided, after a testing period for the club, Pereira and the player.

Lemina’s behaviour will split opinion

As far as messy transfer situations go, Wolves have experienced a fair share in recent years.

Matheus Nunes refused to train to force a move to Manchester City and this season, Lemina refused to play due to his desire to leave.

Mario Lemina’s Wolves career

While some will feel for Lemina based on what the former captain did for the club, others are less tolerant of the 31-year-old’s decisions.

Lemina’s social media activity has landed him in hot water with some Wolves fans, while others are still hurt by his behaviour at West Ham and, his decision to withdraw himself from match selection.

Finally, however, the dust has settled and Lemina is no longer a Wolves player, bringing a rather sour and disappointing transfer saga to a long-awaited close.
