How many points Wolves should be on after 14 games, as new data makes issue evident

Much has been said about the lack of quality in Wolves’ squad, but if there was ever a way to showcase it other than league position, then this latest piece of data paints a clear picture.

Rob Edwards has been handed one of the most difficult jobs in the Premier League, and the Old Gold are 12 points off safety.

It will take something special to climb out of the relegation zone at this point, and fans are growing impatient.

The situation at Molineux is reaching boiling point between supporters and the board due to performances this season and issues stemming from the last few years.

Protest plans are in place for Monday night’s game against Manchester United.

The Old Gold are currently on just two points, but statistics show they should have got a lot more over their 14 matches.

Wolves are heavily underperforming their expected points

Wolves are struggling on both ends of the pitch, but in the early days of Rob Edwards, it appears they are becoming more solid defensively.

In the last three games, the Old Gold have become a more cohesive unit at the back. The goals they have conceded have not come from poor defending, but rather unfortunate situations.

Crystal Palace’s opener took a deflection as it fell for Daniel Munoz, Yeremy Pino scored a screamer, Boubacar Kamara followed that up with a thunderous strike of his own for Aston Villa, and then Sam Johnstone would make an individual error against Nottingham Forest.

It has been a mix of unluckiness and silly mistakes by Wolves’ players in that area.

On the other end of the pitch, the issue of quality has been laid bare. The Wanderers have scored just seven goals from an xG of 12.8. And now those problems have translated into points dropped.

According to Opta, Wolves should actually be on 15 points, which would leave them in 15th place – a much better prospect than their current position of 20th, on just two points.

It shows that the issues are clearly with the quality on the pitch, and the lack of decisiveness in key areas has led to them getting less than expected.

Wolves are putting on performances that should win them games, but they just cannot get those results over the line due to their goalscoring issues.

Confidence must be draining for Wolves’ forwards

It has been five games since Wolves have scored a goal in the Premier League. In fact, in total game time, it has been nine hours and six minutes (in-game minutes including added time) since Marshall Munetsi struck before the break against Burnley.

The centre forwards are surely starting to lose confidence, but this season, they have not really shown any in the first place.

Rob Edwards needs to fix Wolves’ goalscoring issues. That appears to be the biggest concern at present. It is impossible to win games without putting the ball into the opponent’s net.

Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tolu Arokodare need to step up no matter who starts on Monday night against Manchester United. And the fixture could be ideal for the pair.

With Ruben Amorim worried about set-pieces, how should Rob Edwards set up?👀

“Any set-pieces can be a problem with the differences in height in the team. “

Ruben Amorim has admitted Man United struggle with set pieces, and the height of the Wolves strikers could cause lots of problems.

We will have to wait and see what starting XI Rob Edwards selects.
