‘Hoped’: Steve Bull questions transfer decision Wolves have just made on ‘superb’ player

Molineux legend Steve Bull has given his reaction to Raul Jimenez leaving Wolves.

The Mexico international officially departed the club earlier this week to join Fulham.

Jimenez’s exit had been on the cards for a while.

He fell out of favour at the club towards the end of the season, and the star was left in tears when Julen Lopetegui did not give him any minutes in Wolves’ last home game of 2022/23 against Everton.

Jimenez did return to pre-season, leading some to think that he might stay for the final year of his contract.

But the 32-year-old has indeed made a move away.

Many Wolves fans accept that it was probably the right time for him to go. But a lot are gutted nonetheless.

And Bull is very much in that camp.

Steve Bull expresses his sadness at Raul Jimenez leaving Wolves

Many people felt that Jimenez was the best striker at Wolves since Bull.

Bull played for the club from 1986 to 1999 and was an absolute goal machine. He left the club with an outstanding tally of 306 strikes for the club.

Bull has loved watching Jimenez playing in his position for Wolves, and he’s wrote about the star in his latest column for the Express & Star.

He said: “I was sad to see Jimenez go because I thought he still had something to offer. I thought, or hoped, he would be here for another year. But obviously the club got an offer they felt was good enough from Fulham.

“It goes without saying he has left with everyone’s best wishes, having made a host of brilliant memories at Molineux.

“On his day, Jimenez was a superb player for Wolves. He scored goals, made goals and put in some unbelievable performances, particularly during his first two seasons when he was such a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

“I’ve heard a lot of people say he was the best striker the club had since me and I would agree with that. He is right up there with the best. He was a great all-rounder, who was willing to put the work in and chase the ball. He could score all types of goals.”

Potentially with Jimenez gone, there is a chance now for Fabio Silva to get his career going properly at Molineux.

Pre-injury Jimenez was one of the best in the Premier League

It must be nice for Jimenez to read such nice words from Wolves’ all-time top goalscorer.

Bull has always been a big fan of Jimenez and it is little wonder he’s gutted the striker has gone.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Jimenez was one of the best strikers in the Premier League before his awful head injury.

He would be a nightmare for defenders with his physicality, movement in the box and link-up play.

It would be amazing if he could rediscover his mojo at Fulham and hopefully that would not have too much of an impact on Wolves.
