It is fair to say that Matheus Cunha got under a lot of people’s skin during his final few months at Wolves.
The Brazilian has been the subject of a lot of talk in recent times, and on June 1 he left the club to join Manchester United.
It was a move that had been on the cards for a while.
Wolves fans had watched the transfer saga play out very publicly, and plenty were irked with how it seemed to be distracting from the team. Especially when Cunha wasn’t even playing due to suspension.
Cunha caused frustration for Wolves fans when he did an interview with the Guardian, talking about wanting to take the next step and fighting for titles.
This, while Wolves were still fighting against relegation.
Then a couple of weeks later, he made headlines again. Cunha posted a message on Instagram but quickly deleted it. It read: “Time to be happy. I will follow my dreams and yours… So stay cool.”
Wolves fans not happy with Matheus Cunha after new Instagram post

Today, Cunha has been officially unveiled as a new Manchester United player.
United announced the deal had been agreed a couple of weeks ago. But today Cunha’s first words as a new United player have been shared.
The player has also taken to his Instagram Story to post a message. And that message reads: “It’s all about you following your dreams.” The Story post shows Cunha holding a printed out picture of himself wearing a United shirt.
Some Wolves fans believe the choice of words here is very deliberate and are not happy with the former number 10.
@AuntyTwe said: “Just when you think you can’t dislike him any further!! 😤”
@BrianDonley8 said: “Wow. That kinda completes the heel turn doesn’t it.”
@ruariwwfc said: “Fairs man I genuinely might be rattled.”
@Sandhurstwolf said: “Just no need for him to do that.”
@DanHume96 added: “Getting pelters when he comes to the Molineux 😍”
@jay_wwfc07 said: “He’s worse than Nunes btw. At least Nunes and was done and dusted in a few days and that was full stop, Cunha has been at it for months and is STILL going on even though he’s left.”
Cunha must expect boos on Molineux return
While there will be a lot of people ready to give Cunha a good reception when Cunha comes back to play against Wolves, there will also be plenty of people ready to share exactly what they think of him.
Dave Edwards reckons some will boo Cunha when he plays against Wolves, and for the player to think otherwise at this point would be foolish.
Sadly, as brilliant as he was at times for Wolves, his antics have left a sour taste for some, who are now glad that he no longer plays for the club.
The lack of posting from Wolves about Cunha when he left spoke volumes – especially if you compare the announcement of his exit to players like Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia, who were wished well on social media.
