‘He was at 100%’: £15m Wolves man was reportedly ‘sharp’ in behind-closed-doors game today

Sasa Kalajdzic reportedly put in an encouraging display for Wolves today in a game against Manchester City’s academy.

Wanderers took on FC Porto last night and ran out 1-0 winners.

Pedro Neto got the only goal of the game, with Matheus Nunes putting in a perfect cross to the back post.

But Wolves were actually back in match action this morning, playing against City’s youngsters.

The game was not streamed.

But correspondents for the Express & Star Nathan Judah and Liam Keen were both there for the game and have provided some details as to what went down.

Wolves’ team today was comprised of players that either didn’t play against Porto, or played only a few minutes.

There were also some youngsters, such as Nathan Fraser, Ollie Tipton and Alfie Pond.

Judah and Keen touched on a couple of players that caught their eye.

And both agreed that Kalajdzic put in a good display up top.

Judah said: “I thought he was excellent throughout. He just wasn’t holding back was he? He was at 100%. He was threatening, I thought his movement was good, his passing was good. Could have maybe had a couple of goals. He just gives you a completely different factor up front.”

Keen added: “He did play really well. And you have to be excited by the fact that this is a Wolves twam that scored 31 goals in 38 games last season – if you can bring him in, even if he gets seven or eight goals, that’s a massive change from what Wolves have previously had.

“All the signs were good. Also his link-up play was excellent – he linked up with Hwang quite nicely throughout the first-half. He looked sharp, he really did.”

Kalajdzic has been working very hard to build up his fitness. He and Chiquinho were the first players back at Compton this summer after their long-term injuries.

In today’s game, the £15 million striker played 60 minutes.

Great to hear Kalajdzic is progressing well

This will be music to Wolves fans’ ears.

Many are hoping that Kalajdzic can become really influential for Wolves now that he is back fit.

Expectations probably do need to be tempered a little, given the serious nature of the injury he is coming back from. It might take him a bit of time to get used to the Premier League.

But it’s brilliant to hear that he is looking sharp.

Obviously, Wolves have had real trouble scoring goals for quite a while now.

It would be fantastic if Kalajdzic ultimately proved to be the solution to a frustratingly long-standing issue at Molineux.
