‘Had a conversation’: Vitor Pereira explains what is going on with Wolves and Matheus Cunha

Wolves are preparing for a huge match against Arsenal. Saturday’s game at Molineux will be Vitor Pereira’s biggest challenge yet.

The Wolves manager is readying his side for arguably their most important fixture of the season. Defeat at home to Arsenal could lead to the side being plunged into the relegation zone.

Although they’re going to be up against it after Pereira confirmed Toti Gomes won’t be able to play the whole match, the Old Gold remain determined to pull off what would be one of the biggest upsets of the campaign.

And boosting their chances of taking something away from Molineux, Pereira confirmed the current situation with Matheus Cunha amid speculation the Brazilian could be about to play his final game for the club.

Vitor Pereira confirms Wolves’ stance on Matheus Cunha

Despite appearing to be on his way out, Wolves’ number 10 now looks like he could finish the season with the club.

Cunha is a transfer target for six Premier League clubs, and although Nottingham Forest are rumoured to be readying a bid, it looks like the Old Gold will not be entertaining any offers for their star man.

Asked about his relationship with the player ahead of Saturday’s game against Arsenal; one of the clubs linked with Cunha, Pereira remained adamant the forward is ready and raring to go.

“He knows what I want from him, we had a conversation and it’s sorted. He’s ready to help the team,” he told reporters.

The Portuguese boss also said he doesn’t know if any rival clubs have put an offer on the table but once again reiterated the South American is not for sale.

“Any bids? “I don’t know, he’s my player and he’s not for sale. He’s committed to us,” Pereira added.

Head down, time to fight

Knowing how big Wolves’ upcoming fixtures are as they look to secure top-flight survival, Cunha knows how disastrous it would be for his club if he pushed for an exit now.

While penning a contract extension now seems very unlikely, Cunha, who is frustrated by Wolves’ broken promise, must still feel obliged to finish the campaign before asking to join a league rival.

If the 25-year-old leaves the Midlands anytime between now and next month’s Deadline Day, fans will fear the worst, especially as their next two league fixtures after Arsenal are against rivals Aston Villa and leaders Liverpool.

So, it’s quite straightforward, if Cunha cares, even just a little bit, about how he’ll be remembered in the Midlands, now is the time to get his head down and fight his hardest for survival.

Anything less and he’ll never be forgiven.
