Glenn Hoddle shares ‘the only way’ Wolves will actually be in trouble in 25/26

Wolves could not have started the new season much worse, but Glenn Hoddle believes there are still some reasons for optimism.

Wolves lost 3-1 to Leeds United on Saturday, meaning Vitor Pereira still hasn’t picked up a point.

Just days prior, Wolves handed Pereira a new contract in a bid to bring about ‘stability’.

Pereira’s new contract was questioned by Wolves fans, many of whom felt the club should have waited until form picked up.

The decision has now been made, and Vitor Pereira will now need to try and work that same magic he did last season.

But he must do so with a much weaker squad, after the club’s poor summer in the transfer window.

Many Wolves fans are pessimistic at the moment, but Glenn Hoddle reckons there is still reason to be upbeat.

A lot of Wolves fans have actually gone past the stage of anger now.

For many it is now apathy, and the sooner Fosun are no longer the owners, the better.

But there’s been nothing to suggest that Fosun will be selling up, which is what so many are having a hard time accepting.

While Fosun run this club, it is impossible to see how Wolves can push up the table and challenge for European football.

At the moment, as has been the case for the past few years, it’s about staving off relegation, and some feel Wolves’ time as a Premier League club could be coming to an end.

However, Glenn Hoddle is cautiously optimistic Wolves will be OK.

He said on Premier League Productions’ The Saturday Wrap show: “He signed a new contract, so there’s no pressure on him, personally. There is on the team and the club and the players, for sure.

“I think there’s still enough time in the season for them to turn things around. I think at the moment there is a problem there, they’re conceding too many goals, they’re too open to play against.

“Don’t worry about the fact they haven’t won a game yet. They’ve just got to look at Brentford. They’ve got to look at that mini-table. That’s what they’ve got to chase.

“You put two or three games together where you win, you can turn that around. West Ham are in trouble, I think Brentford might be in trouble.

“They’re only three or four points behind them. There’s a long way to go, and if they hit the panic button, then I think that’s the only way I think they’ll be in trouble.”

Wolves have a lot of time, but not a lot of quality

A lot of Wolves fans will struggle to share this optimism from Hoddle, given what the team have served up so far this season.

Yes, there is plenty of time left for Wolves to turn things around.

But these players actually have to take the bull by the horns and do that – which many won’t back them to do.

Many pundits believe a worrying fate awaits Wolves this season. Ally McCoist recently tipped Wolves to get relegated.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were in agreement that Wolves will be in a relegation battle this season after losing key players.

Ultimately, Wolves have indeed lost their game-changers, and players with bags of Premier League experience, and replaced them with gambles.

There are also barely any leaders in the group to get a grip of things when the going gets tough, which will be the case for most of this season.
