Glenn Hoddle admits he was ‘baffled’ by what happened in 39th minute of Wolves vs Leeds

Wolves are still licking their wounds after yet another defeat in the Premier League at the weekend.

Wanderers had hoped to get off the mark against Leeds United at Molineux, and it was certainly an opportunity to take points.

Wolves had not scored a goal from open play prior to the game, and some hoped that new contracts for Vitor Pereira and Jorgen Strand Larsen would have perhaps helped Wanderers heading into the contest.

After taking the lead through Ladislav Krejci, Wolves then gift-wrapped three goals for Leeds, in what was a disgraceful performance.

The backline has been a problem all season, but against Leeds it was the worst it had looked, with fans again slamming Emmanuel Agbadou for his performance.

But fans also targeted Jose Sa for criticism – and Glenn Hoddle also questioned Wolves’ number one after the game.

In the 39th minute of the game, Krejci conceded a silly free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.

Anton Stach stepped up and fired it into the top corner to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

On first glance, it looks a superb hit from the midfielder.

But Hoddle feels Sa actually might have done better, as the ball went to his side of the goal.

The former Wolves manager also questioned the placement of the wall, which was ultimately Sa’s decision.

He said on The Saturday Wrap: “It’s the goalkeeper’s side, but I’m baffled as to where they’ve lined the wall up.

“Normally you’d have the wall over that side, and then the goalkeeper would be in the other corner. It was all confusion there, and that’s what happens when you’re down the bottom and things are not going well.

“You mismatch things, things happen to you that are unusual. They could have done better there, it’s keeper’s side.

“The reason you have a wall if you’re saying ‘This is my side, I’ll deal with everything that comes my way’. It was a powerful shot, yea, but it’s the goalkeeper’s side, he’s got to make that save.”

Jose Sa deserves to be dropped

It was a great strike from Stach, but it is also disappointing that Sa got beat on that side of the goal.

It has been a poor start to the new season for Wolves number one, and it’s now hard to make a case for Sa to be starting for Wolves.

He’s made just five saves this season in his four appearances, conceding 11.

Nearly every shot that is taken against him is finding the back of the net, and Pereira surely has to make a change between the sticks.

Sam Johnstone played well against Newcastle United. Granted, he’s been largely disappointing since he signed from Crystal Palace, but he now deserves a chance to play amid Sa’s struggles.
