German media drop Fabio Silva verdicts as former Wolves star scores for Borussia Dortmund

Fabio Silva will go down as one of Wolves’ worst ever transfers, and is now hoping for a much better spell at Borussia Dortmund.

Fabio Silva left Wolves in the summer, which was something that had been on the cards for some time.

Silva had been out on loan a few times in recent years, having spells at Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and Las Palmas.

His spell in Spain was his best, and Wolves were then able to capitalise. Silva was finally sold, with Borussia Dortmund coughing up just under £23 million for his signature.

That ultimately meant Wolves made a loss of around £12 million on Silva, which given his struggles to make an impact at Molineux, wasn’t actually bad going in the end.

There was little doubt that Wolves massively overpaid for Silva, so to get £23 million from Dortmund was respectable.

Silva hasn’t had many minutes so far for his new club, but did enjoy his best moment yet last night in the Champions League.

Silva has not featured too much for Dortmund since his move from Wolves because he had an injury at the time of his move.

Silva was forced to miss the final handful of games of last season with Las Palmas, and he only recently returned to fitness.

So far, Silva has made just five appearances. But last night he opened his account for Dortmund, scoring against Copenhagen in the Champions League.

And several outlets were full of praise for the former Wolves striker.

Sport Bild: “First goal for BVB. Ensured the final score with the 4:1. He is slowly getting the necessary fitness he needs. He will play an even more important role in the coming weeks.

BVB Buzz (7/10): “Fabio Silva continues to impress Borussia Dortmund fans, scoring his first goal as a Borussia Dortmund player through a fantastic right-footed near-post finish.”

Ruhr 24: “Fabio Silva’s will was clearly noticeable – as in his previous appearances. Actually, he no longer had any influence on the game. But then he scored his debut goal for Borussia Dortmund. After a rebounded ball from Jobe Bellingham, the ball was in the air for a long time in the box. The summer signing took a self-confident swing and hit the goal with a volley. A technically demanding, albeit durable goal.”

Sebastian Kehl pleased with Fabio Silva start

Silva will now look to build on his first goal for Dortmund.

He has to compete with Serhou Guirassy which is not easy, but one gets the feeling that Silva will be up for the challenge.

He scored goals while out on loan from Wolves, and he’ll be determined to make this move a success.

So far, he seems to have caught the eye, with Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl praising the 23-year-old.

He said after last night’s win over Copenhagen: “Fabio Silva has been an energising influence in every game he’s come on in. He rewarded himself with his first goal. For a striker, that’s worth its weight in gold.”

It didn’t work out for Silva, but hopefully he can show people what he’s all about at Dortmund. There is definitely a player in there.
