Wolves are spoiled for choice in midfield, with one player now said to be pushing ahead of Joao Gomes for three key reasons.
Gary O’Neil has a talented XI to coach at Wolves, reinforcing how quickly the manager must act to get his squad in order.
The Old Gold have suffered a difficult start to the 2024/25 calendar, with just one point on the board in the Premier League after five games played.
Sitting bottom of the table and without a win, Wolves must find inspiration to seal a win somewhere, which is a position many doubted the club would be in at the start of the campaign.

Wolves given three reasons why Andre is more ‘polished’ than Joao Gomes
Wolves have a highly-talented squad, with the troubles coming beyond the favoured XI, with O’Neil lacking depth in quality in a range of positions.
One area that the manager doesn’t have to worry about is the midfield, having added Brazil international Andre to the field on transfer deadline day.
The 23-year-old, who was purchased from Fluminense for £21m, has impressed greatly following his arrival, earning high praise for his composure in midfield.
Speaking about Andre’s impact on The Keen & Judah Show, journalist Liam Keen gave three reasons why he believes the summer arrival is ‘more polished’ than countryman Joao Gomes.
“Joao Gomes is excellent at winning the ball back and he’s full of energy, tackling, running the line in midfield but I think Andre’s a bit cuter, a bit more polished.
“Less fouls, less yellow cards, he’s less chaotic, so he adds a slightly calmer presence next to Gomes doing a similar job.”
Andre’s composure has stood out as a positive in Wolves’ recent fixtures, where the midfielder recorded near-perfect pass completion rates, even completing 100% of his passes against Newcastle on his full debut.
It’s unsurprising to hear Andre being praised for the calmness he brings to the midfield, with Gomes being a solid but erratic force at times.
Andre can teach Gomes a lot
Since arriving at Molineux from Flamengo in 2023, Gomes has risen to the top at Wolves, showcasing his strengths in midfield.
Now that the combative midfielder has a partner like Andre alongside him, the 2023 arrival can begin to polish and sculpt his game with more thought.
Gomes has strengths that succeed Andre’s and vice versa however, it’s already been made clear just what the former Fluminense star has over his countryman in the Premier League.
It will be interesting to see how the partnership flourishes over the course of the season, with the hope being that Wolves’ Brazilian core can become even stronger with time.
