Gary O’Neil told he had a player who was simply ‘outstanding’ during 2-2 draw with Brighton

Wolves battled back to take a point against Brighton at the weekend, and one player has been hailed as ‘outstanding’.

Wanderers looked to be heading for another Premier League defeat when Evan Ferguson doubled Brighton’s lead on 85 minutes.

But Wolves did not lie down, and came roaring back to find two goals late on.

After Rayan Ait-Nouri pulled one back, Matheus Cunha picked up a brilliant ball from Tommy Doyle, who had prevented a four-on-one attack by Brighton.

The Brazilian finished into the far corner, prompting bedlam in the away end.

A number of Wolves players came in for high praise following the contest, with Santiago Bueno among those to get his due credit.

Bueno now looks like he is set for a run in the Wolves starting XI.

The Uruguay international has not always been in favour with Gary O’Neil. But the change of system has seen him come in and start the last two games, and he looks to really be finding his feet now.

After Saturday’s game, Dan McNamara – the head coach of Wolves Women – appeared on Matchday Live Extra to give his thoughts on the game.

And he made sure to give Bueno his due credit.

He said: “I thought Santi Bueno was outstanding.

“Especially in that second-half where O’Neil’s asking him to be aggressive, especially stepping in with that high 10. Both him and Dawson did that really well.”

This is Bueno’s moment for Wolves

It is fantastic to see Bueno starting for Wolves in the Premier League and turning in strong performances.

It hasn’t been easy for him since he signed from Girona for £8.5 million, and there were even suggestions in the summer that Wolves were prepared to loan Bueno out.

But he’s kept his head down, and now finds himself in the team – and thus far, he has not let his manager down.

He and Dawson looked to be building a decent partnership, and it is not out of the question that Bueno could enjoy a similar campaign to what Toti Gomes did last season.

Toti started last term on the bench, but came into the team after a couple of months and went on to be one of Wolves’ most consistent performers.
