Gary O’Neil sent strong message from Wolves fans after Mario Lemina incident – he’s ‘too emotional’

Wolves suffered their third consecutive defeat in the Premier League after losing to West Ham on Monday night.

In a fixture branded ‘El Sackico’, the Old Gold failed to collect three points in a bid to save Gary O’Neil’s job.

Despite sitting 19th in the table, Fosun remain supportive of O’Neil, as the manager confirmed when speaking to the media post-match.

While the defeat wasn’t as poor as Wolves’ embarrassing loss to Everton, it’s clear that there’s a long way to go until a solution to the Old Gold’s problems is found.

Wolves defeat clouded by Mario Lemina incident

In what was a fixture full of emotion, the squad managed to keep their heads for the majority however, one team member let the visitors down.

Mario Lemina was involved in a brawl at full-time at the London Stadium which rapidly progressed from a player-to-player squabble to ugly scenes.

The midfielder not only got physical with Jarrod Bowen after a petty exchange but then failed to mask his anger to his own teammates.

Toti Gomes and Nelson Semedo attempted to calm the captain down but tensions only rose, ending in Lemina squaring up to first-team coach Shaun Derry.

While some understood that the 31-year-old simply let his emotions get the better of him on a tough night, others were far less impressed with the skipper’s actions.

Supporters are not impressed with Lemina

Some fans momentarily put their dissatisfaction with O’Neil to the side to express their disappointment in Lemina.

“Players are lost, the Lemina incident at the end highlighting the rot,” one sympathetic supporter said. “He did show fight on the pitch. Still think he’s too emotional to be captain.”

Others took a more direct approach, with many calling for O’Neil to strip Lemina of captaincy due to his unsuitability to the role.

Some supporters admitted that they’ve had a concerning feeling about Lemina’s emotional side for some time, dubbing him ‘unstable and unsuited’ to being club captain.

“This is a sign Lemina is unstable and unsuited to the role of Captain. I’ve suspected for a while his role on the pitch and dressing room is disruptive, undermines the younger players.”

Another said, “Time for Lemina to sit on the bench for a few weeks. A great footballer but too emotional to be captain. We need leaders now more than ever and that is not leadership.”

The Gabon international’s moment of madness has split opinion within the Wolves fanbase, with an overriding feeling that Lemina had to do better due to his senior leadership role.

“Understandable that Lemina was annoyed but it doesn’t cost to show good sportsmanship and be respectful to other people. As the captain too not a great look.”
