Gary O’Neil has fired a warning at Premier League referees after Wolves saw another controversial call against them.
Last weekend saw Wolves impacted once again by dodgy refereeing decisions as Newcastle were handed a penalty. Hee-Chan Hwang kicked to clear the ball and Fabian Schar hit the deck, despite replays showing there wasn’t any contact.
Anthony Taylor was the referee in charge last Saturday. Now after his poor decisions, he has found himself demoted this weekend and is on Championship duty for the first time since 2019.
Now, Gary O’Neil has spoken on the incident, sending a warning to other referees.

O’Neil sends a warning to referees
Speaking in his pre-weekend press conference which was quoted by Goal, O’Neil sent a small message to other referees.
“I saw the numbers in the review they do on Tuesday which was 5-0 in favour of a penalty not being given on-field, and 4-1 in favour of it not being overturned by VAR.
“I think Anthony Taylor’s doing the Championship game this weekend – that’s three referees who’ve been relegated on the back of refereeing us, so you need to be careful when you referee Wolves because you could end up getting relegated the following week!
“That’s Man Utd, Luton and Newcastle now. I haven’t received an apology and I don’t want one. They’re not going to help, but hopefully, the level improves.”
Could change things for Wolves
As much as complaining and publically pressuring a referee potentially is bad, we have seen what it’s done for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp called out the incompetence which resulted in officials on the main making the right decisions against them.
Therefore referees are probably now set to be very cautious to avoid making poor decisions against Wolves.
This could benefit Wolves and hopefully see no points taken away through poor refereeing. But we won’t hold our breath.
