Gary O’Neil has said that Matheus Cunha will ‘definitely’ be in the Wolves squad tonight for the game against Burnley.
Fans had hoped that Cunha would be available for last weekend’s game with Aston Villa.
But it came just a bit too soon for the Brazilian, who did not end up making the squad. Wolves went on to lose the game 2-0, with young Leon Chiwome leading the line.
Cunha made his return to training recently, leading to speculation that he would be back very soon.
Tonight, fans will finally see him in the squad again for the first time since early February…
Gary O’Neil confirms Matheus Cunha will ‘definitely’ be in Wolves squad to face Burnley

O’Neil spoke to reporters yesterday ahead of tonight’s match in the Premier League with Burnley.
It will be a chance for Wanderers to bounce back, after losing 2-0 to Villa on Saturday.
Burnley are currently 19th, and present a golden chance for Wolves to keep alive their European football hopes.
Cunha – who suffered a ‘significant’ hamstring injury back in February – featuring tonight would be a major boost, and O’Neil has confirmed he will at least be in the squad.
He said (via Wolves official): “I think we’ll see him on Tuesday. He’ll definitely be in the matchday squad, barring anything going wrong between now and then. He’s miles ahead of schedule. When the scan results came through after the injury it was expected to be somewhere between 10 and 12 weeks, and it’s just over six.
“He’s doing absolutely everything, he was knocking my door down to be involved in the Aston Villa game, but we have to make sure it’s right for him. We’ve had a setback or two already this season from injuries.
“You have medical information that tells you he shouldn’t quite be ready yet, but Matheus Cunha looks ready and tells you he’s ready. He rang me about four times at 9.30, 10 o clock at night telling me how ready he is, but I want to help him. I understand he feels ready, but we need to make sure we tick enough boxes.”
Cunha return is major boost for Wolves
Cunha being back for Wolves is a major boost.
We have seen recently that Wolves have struggled in the final third, and it was probably always going to be that way after losing three absolutely key players.
In previous games, youngsters Chiwome and Nathan Fraser have both struggled, and just haven’t provided that goal threat.
£60,000-a-week star Cunha was in terrific form before his injury, and fans will hope he can quickly return to those levels and help Wolves push for Europe. He will be returning without momentum and form, but his mere presence on the pitch is likely to really lift his teammates.
