Gary O’Neil shares Matheus Cunha injury update ahead of Wolves clash with Arsenal

Speaking to the media in a press conference ahead of the trip to the Emirates, O’Neil shared a long-awaited fitness update on Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury during the Old Gold’s tour of the United States, leaving fans concerned so close to the start of the season.

As relayed by journalist Liam Keen on X, O’Neil confirmed that the highly-rated forward is ready to feature against Arsenal.

“Cunha is fine and raring to go. He’s worked hard to get back and he’s feeling very good. There’s no concerns around him, which is a big boost for us,” Keen reported.

The boss is right in describing Cunha’s return as a “big boost” for Wolves, as the forward will be eager to cause the hosts problems on Saturday afternoon.

Cunha is so important to Wolves

Last season was a turning point for Cunha, who has really found his feet playing in O’Neil’s free-flowing attack.

The £60k-a-week Brazil international was utilised in the number 10 role throughout pre-season prior to his injury, with his return now a huge plus for how Wolves could line up on the opening day.

Last term, Cunha contributed to 19 goals in the Premier League, not only emerging as a reliable scorer by netting 12 but was also a critical source of creating chances, claiming seven assists.

Rejuvenated by Cunha’s return to action, Wolves will be more confident of the task at hand in North London, with the 25-year-old capable of causing problems for Mikel Arteta’s side with his direct and electrifying style of play.
